EurAdopt was represented by Jette Wuertz (AC, International Child Support, DK) at this workshop organised by the Hague Convention in Dakar (Senegal).

More than 60 participants from Central Authorities and Ministries of Justice of 15 French-speaking African and Central American countries of origin were present. There were also representatives from 6 receiving countries including representatives from 5 Central Authorities, and EurAdopt and in addition UNICEF, Save the Children, African Child Policy Forum, ISS and Permanent Bureau of Hague Convention.

The conference lasted 4 days and had a variety of themes on the agenda and, among other things, discussed different issues such as intercountry adoption today with special focus on Africa. As the representative for EurAdopt, Jette Würtz gave two presentations: “What is good practice for adoption organisations? “ and “What is Post Adoption Service (PAS) and how do the receiving countries work with PAS, including recommendations countries of origin concerning the preparation of the child and the preservation of the child's history? “

 

A mutual exchange of experiences was a significant part of the conference for both the countries of origin and the receiving countries, and all themes were eagerly discussed.
